David Wilson was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN and currently resides in Lyons, CO in the foothills of the Rockies with his partner, Cheryl, and four-legged companion, Hurri. After developing diabetes as a child, David started playing guitar and performing with bands by age 13. In high school, he joined a southern rock and blues band (Dark Star) as lead guitarist and began playing at local schools and bars around Minneapolis. A few year later, David formed a band together with country singer Hurcil Woodruff after they both answered a newspaper ad placed by a bar looking for a three piece country band. Dave and Hurcil inquired of the other if they could actually sing and play guitar, and after confirming that indeed they could, they went on to become the “Quarter Horse Band.” The band soon became known for its polished, soulful renditions of Jerry Jeff Walker, Charlie Daniels, Skeetar Davis and others. They also recorded original music and opened the first three years at “WE Fest” in Detroit Lakes, MN; one of the largest country music festivals in the country. David has worked with many country, blues and original bands contributing his own songs and unique style while playing on studio sessions, showcases, TV and radio. His music has been heard and played at the Guthrie Theater, Southern Theater and Fine Line. Some of the industry greats he has worked with included Freddy Fender, Floyd ‘Red crow’ Westerman (Dances with Wolves), Jesse Johnson (The Time), and Nick St. Nicholas (Steppenwolf). David has also worked as a carpenter, heating and refrigeration technician and EMT, while raising a family with two fantastic children. Being of native descent, Dakota/Lakota, he has performed with the “Bird Family Group,” Jackie Bird, and composed and produced an original song for the Dakota Commemorative March that has been distributed internationally. David is currently working on a CD, a collection of his own original songs that blends his rock and blues roots with the Native drum, creating a unique sound that expresses his belief in the power of music to draw together people of all races. | Return Home | Kelly J.
